The title to this piece may seem to fly in the face of street sense and even hard-thought wisdom, but allow me to elaborate.
For now, let’s set aside the “Master Your Mind” part of the equation.
Many guys, including those whom I consider to be among my most respected and well-loved friends, readily grasp that getting the girl cannot be had without stepping up. That is to say, they understand you can’t have something for nothing. You want the princess? Go become the prince.

Hating on others, criticizing others, discouraging and subverting others—these behaviors usually stem from a loss of belief in yourself. I say loss because at some point, every one of us did believe in himself, in his dream, in his boundless potential. But something—someone even—happened. And just like that, the grand edifice collapsed like a house of cards.

I am writing this to a friend as much as I am writing this to myself.
Anyone can criticize. It’s easy (and sometimes gratifying) to tear someone apart, finding fault with anything that doesn’t conform to your ideals and expectations. What’s difficult, is to turn the looking glass on yourself, to see all the shortcomings and contradictions in your words and actions. Not that you need to fruitlessly root out every last defect that crops up, but at least be honest with yourself in the areas that matter–areas of your life that you’d like to shine in and in which fabricating self-assuaging stories about why you can’t succeed would delay your ascent.

The man had a dream. At one time, he even believed in his dream. He took action towards realizing this dream and with each step he took, he could smell the sweet aroma of victory filling his nostrils. But something happened, something that would forever change the course of his life.
