I’ve known several people who were born into money and I can tell you that most of them are soft. Weak. Undisciplined, and unhappy. They cry at the slightest provocation, give up at the first sign of resistance, and complain incessantly. This is because once you’ve achieved a certain level of sustenance and stability, money can no longer buy happiness, only stimulation. The real currency of happiness lies in your courageous deeds and your positive effect on the world. Through these, your heart will find peace. If you don’t believe me, study anyone who is consistently happy and fulfilled, and you will find that he is constantly focused on his personal growth and his interpersonal contribution. Laziness and selfishness will only beget a restless spirit.

As many of you already know, I live in California now. Compared to New York, I am working twice as hard at my job to make half as much, which effectively means I’m making 1/4th as much. At first I was miserable, I’m not going to lie. Since I didn’t believe I could fatten up my bank account anytime soon, I chose to pursue my happiness without it. It took me a while to get here, but I can now say that I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life. There are actually many reasons for this, but for now I’ll just discuss my top 4.
