The 8-posts-per-month challenge is officially over!  Traci has decided to shift her attention to writing a second book, which she announced here.  If you missed it, you can check out the original conversation we had in the comments section of this post here, or the challenge announcement on her blog here.  I will still blog as time permits, but I can no longer guarantee a steady stream of 8 posts each month.  Many thanks to Traci as my writing has improved markedly over these last several months!

Next up:

I am going to take a cue from Traci and shift my attention to writing a book as well.  I had actually started this selfsame book in earnest no less than 3.5 years ago, but because my writing was just not at a level I was satisfied with, I scrapped it when I started this blog.  Now that I’ve had more time to explore my ideas and hone my craft, I’m ready to reboot the book.

I have been saving my best insights, my best metaphors, and my best wordplay for this project.  It is going to be story-driven nonfiction like “House of Dreams,” but more eventful, more passionate, and much broader in scope.  The book will paint a more complete picture of what my journey is all about while containing philosophical gems interwoven throughout its narrative.  In short, it will be my blog on steroids, creatine, and ginger all rolled into one.

What’s the Rush?

She had never been, so I was eager to show her. We’d have to be quick, I thought, if we wanted to make it to the dessert café before closing time.

wedding bands

This weekend I attended my friend’s wedding. It was a beautiful affair with roses, candles, and of course, a deejay. Surprisingly, I found myself paying close attention to details that I thought might enhance my own wedding someday. I say ‘surprising,’ because for most of my adult life, I was cynical of even the idea of marriage. Having been cheated on, having seen so-called perfect couples fall apart before my eyes, having read the sobering statistics on our country’s famously high divorce rate, I wasn’t exactly inspired to tie the knot back then.

desert reflection

This month marks 2 years since I first started my blog.  I feel honored to have received close to 20,000 views almost exclusively through word-of-mouth.  Thank you all, dear readers. If you feel that my writing has had a positive effect on you, then please pass it along. I would much rather spend what little free time I have in order to work on producing quality content than to spend it on aggressive advertising and affiliate marketing.

dandelion seeds

I’ve known several people who were born into money and I can tell you that most of them are soft. Weak. Undisciplined, and unhappy. They cry at the slightest provocation, give up at the first sign of resistance, and complain incessantly. This is because once you’ve achieved a certain level of sustenance and stability, money can no longer buy happiness, only stimulation. The real currency of happiness lies in your courageous deeds and your positive effect on the world. Through these, your heart will find peace. If you don’t believe me, study anyone who is consistently happy and fulfilled, and you will find that he is constantly focused on his personal growth and his interpersonal contribution. Laziness and selfishness will only beget a restless spirit.
