“Someone once told me the definition of Hell: The last day you have on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.”

Every decision you make has an opportunity-cost. That is, taking one road precludes taking another; staking out one spot for your sand castle implies not building in another. The question that haunts the soul is: Did I choose the right spot?
You’re the only one that can answer that question. But I can tell you one thing: If you were sure of your decision at the time you made it, don’t waste your time wondering what if.
What if I chose differently?
What if someone chose better than me?
What if I had done this instead of that?
Look out at the horizon. Do you see that? The tide’s coming and there’s nothing we can do about it. The question is not whether you chose correctly or not—the decision is already made. Quickly make peace with it. It’s time to start building.
Maybe by sundown your life’s work will be swept away by the ocean—yours and everyone else’s—but at least you can look back one day and say: Damn, that was one helluva castle!
