It took me a while, but I’m back in business baby. I’m ahead on my blog writing, which means I can now concentrate on the book. My life has been rejiggered to accommodate new friends and new projects, and all the puzzle pieces are starting to snap together.

On your journey you’re going to have instances of self-doubt. After all, crags and chasms are part of the terrain. The answer of course is to continually affirm yourself. Even a veteran mountain climber has to steady his feet now and again. You do too, else you fall into the abyss.

Pain is your brain’s way of demanding change. Don’t waste your limited time on this earth trying to run away from it or trying to sweep it under the rug. If you don’t give it due respect, it will come back with a vengeance. You may feel the urge to stuff your face with food, to bury your blues with booze, to marinate your senses with unending titillations. But you mustn’t.

This weekend I attended my friend’s wedding. It was a beautiful affair with roses, candles, and of course, a deejay. Surprisingly, I found myself paying close attention to details that I thought might enhance my own wedding someday. I say ‘surprising,’ because for most of my adult life, I was cynical of even the idea of marriage. Having been cheated on, having seen so-called perfect couples fall apart before my eyes, having read the sobering statistics on our country’s famously high divorce rate, I wasn’t exactly inspired to tie the knot back then.
