If you’ve read my post “The Best Pickup Line Ever,” you might wonder about the follow-up to which I alluded. That is, what do you actually talk to girls about? If you can answer that question with confidence, then by all means, keep doing what you’re doing. I’m just a regular dude who has his own opinion on the matter.
According to mass media and mainstream thought, you should talk to girls about their interests. Most (not all) girls are interested in subjects like fashion, relationships, and celebrity gossip. You could also find out a girl’s specific interests ahead of time (through friends or otherwise) and talk about that. So if she likes surfing for example, you might want to share the stories and knowledge you have that relate to surfing.
Or you could be a man,
STOP trying to fit in,
and just talk about whatever you want.
I talk to girls about aliens, anime, evolution, how I sprained my back, anything really. Whatever is on my mind at the time. But wait, doesn’t that mean that a lot of girls won’t like you because you don’t have anything in common?
Yes, and that’s the point. Not every girl is meant to like you and you are not meant to like every girl. It’s like my blog. Do I ever ask my readers what they want to read about? Or do I just write what I feel like? And the people who enjoy my writing will follow my blog, and the people that don’t, won’t. In a courtship, a girl wants to know who the guy in front of her is and the only way she can find out is for you to be your unabashed, authentic self and talk about the things you like to talk about. This does not mean that you should not ask her any questions or find out about her as well, but at least in the beginning, you should go first. Not coincidentally, going first shows confidence. And as any guy with a brain knows, girls love confidence.
“…a girl wants to know who the guy in front of her is and the only way she can find out is for you to be your unabashed, authentic self…”
Yes! Too many guys out there try too hard to impress us girls by pretending to be someone they aren’t and they forget that we want to know the REAL person.
Or maybe it’s just me that likes to know about other people because I’m genuinely interested. Lol!
In all fairness, a lot of girls do it too :p
Absolutely, I agree with you!
But I’m not one of them. I figure that if people don’t like the real me, then it’s not meant to be. I can’t bring myself to pretend to be someone I’m not. I hope others can find value in that.
“This above all: to thine own self be true” William Shakespeare, Hamlet.
That’s a good mindset Traci. As writers, we have to remember to be true to our vision as well, and not try to please a hypothetical audience. I am writing for a male audience, but over half my readers are still female, lol. So you really cant predict how ppl will react to you.
As a writer, a mommy, and an individual, I feel the need to be true to myself. If I’m not, I can’t look myself in the mirror every morning.
If people react to me favorably, great! If they don’t, that’s okay too. I take comfort in the fact that they didn’t like something because I’m honest about who I am and not because I was a fake version of myself.
Btw, thx for the great chat on your site – I envy the interaction you have with your readers! :)
I think it’s natural that the more honest you are, the more ppl will hate you. But at the same time, some of the ppl who were neutral about you will love you as well. Your passion will knock people off the fence, so to speak, like a strong wind. Keep writing bestie :)
I’ll keep writing if you will, Blogger Bestie ;)
Oh, I’ll definitely keep writing. Let’s see who can keep it up longer ;)
Done!
Are we putting wagers on this??
Let’s see where this can go, shall we?? ;)

Haha, you don’t know who you’re dealing with missy! It’s on. I am going to make one caveat which is that I will average 2 posts/week for a total of 8 posts/month which is my stated goal.
Done. I’ll promise the same amount.
Game on! ;)
Everyone, please check out my blogger bestie’s challenge. I expect my readers to hold Traci and me accountable for 8 posts per month for the duration of the challenge. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to visit her website as often as she visits mine, but I can assure you all that her writing is very high quality. Also, her personality is tops!
