Have you ever made the mistake of only working on one aspect of your life at a time? I know I have. And every time I make this mistake, I get pain. Insecurity. Restlessness. A depletion in my reservoir of positive emotions.
If you use this kind of strategy, you will always be stuck doing damage control. While you’re busy getting your body exactly the way you want it, your finances may begin to slip. While you’re busy trying to make enough money (does such a thing even exist?), you may find yourself hugging your bank account, instead of the woman you love. If you have to rebuild any part of your life from ground zero, you are creating unnecessary stress for yourself. Not only will progress be harder to come by, but you will have to work your butt off just to restore an area of your life back to its previous state.
It is a strategy rooted in perfectionism. But the regularity of your well-being is in direct proportion to how much imperfection you can tolerate. You see your life not as how you wish it were, but how it actually is. You remind yourself repeatedly that there is no such thing as a perfect body, a perfect job, or a perfect relationship. Therefore, you accept imperfection in everything while still choosing to make progress, in everything.
Instead of having to follow-up with the doctor every few months, you only need an annual check-up because you live a healthy, active lifestyle. Instead of “getting back into the game” after 6 months of post break-up self-pity, you move on at a steady pace with the support of a social circle in which you have never stopped investing. Instead of needing to take out an emergency loan from the bank, you take it easy because you have been saving money for years.
At first your progress may seem slow because your faculties are spread out, but as small successes accumulate in all areas of your life simultaneously, you will enjoy a level of peace, balance, and confidence only known to those who work on everything.
This is wonderful post, it points out the main reason that many people gaining stresses. Working on what kind of job or owning how much money is just one aspect of our lives. To view life as a whole, some of imperfects also can be part of the unique perfect jounery.
Thank you pinkyjumper :) Yes, imperfection is part of the journey towards perfection.
