I know some people will like the domain name change and others will not. Most people won’t even care because they would just like me to put out more content–which I will continue to do, so stop flipping out, ok? ;)
But I want to take this opportunity to address the concerns of the people who do not like the new domain name. “But aren’t you the cool nerd?” Yes, I do consider myself a big nerd in many ways, and I would like to think I’m pretty boss most of the time, but “cool nerd” is just an arbitrary identity label like “artist” or “party girl.” The typical image of an artist is often some moody guy with long disheveled hair painting away in a studio apartment by himself. The typical image of a party girl is often some indecent girl boozing the night away, spending each night in a different bed.
But does having long hair or long periods of social isolation make one an artist? Can an artist not have short, neatly trimmed hair and prefer collaborating with others on his projects? Of course he can. Can a girl not hold a respectable career during the day and still love to party at night, without being considered indecent? Of course she can. Identities, even though they root us psychologically amidst the ceaseless motion of the world around us, are sometimes cumbersome and need to be dropped before we can climb over the next barrier in our way. I’ve reached a point that my blog identity of “cool nerd,” “nerd of cool,” or any other iteration on that theme no longer characterizes the flavor of my writing. In fact, I now find it to be constraining creatively.
Initially I found the idea of changing my domain name to something completely different to be quite unsavory, but then I realized that just as shedding my old identities of “shy guy” and “victim” allowed me to grow socially and emotionally as a person, dropping my blog identity of “cool nerd” will allow me to expand the creative flow of my ideas. Naturally, that means my new blog identity of “choose to take the journey” is also subject to change should it no longer serve my purpose in the future.
As always, I hope you all will continue to read my blog. I will continue to improve my writing just as I will continue to improve myself. That is my commitment to you, the reader, and my commitment to myself.
Love
A. T. Bui
As long as you continue to grow, I will continue to read about it :)
Be prepared to be reading for a long time then :)
I look forward to it!
We are all evolving as we walk our path through life, we thus need to make the changes to reflect the internal changes in us. Domain names should not impact how people feel about your blog, since it is content that is important.
Thanks, that’s what I feel too.
