My adjustment to life in California is finally complete. The main sticking point slowing my progress was my inability to let go of the past, the five-star life I had in New York.
I lived with great friends and lived it up with a few unforgettable girls. During the day, I looked forward to a job that was secure, high-paying, and relatively laid-back. At night and on weekends, fun and excitement were par for the course. The Big Apple is everything they say it is and more. So when I arrived in California, I was immediately nostalgic for the lifestyle I had left behind. It felt amazing to relive those glorious memories, only it made it that much harder to move on.
But I now realize that the best part of my life is yet to come. I’ve made peace with my decision to move by accepting everything exactly the way it is, taking the good with the bad. From this place of peace, I am able to dream new dreams and work towards manifesting them here in The Golden State. Unless I want to become Al Bundy from “Married With Children” who compulsively boasted of his 4 touchdowns in a single game of yesteryear, I will continue to plug away towards a more glorious future, rather than to dwell on the fading glory of the past. Because, it doesn’t matter so much where you’ve been, so much as where you’re going.
It is good to experience new environments in life, they all have their positive and negative sides; but life is never stale. The great thing is choice and the liberty to change.
